Is there any reason to not get DDR4 when buying a new motherboard?

I'm planning on buying a new motherboard + CPU soonish. Most likely Skylake unless I see a good reason to get Haswell instead.

One thing I noticed is that Z170 motherboards can come in DDR3L versions or DDR4 versions. Is there any reason to get DDR3 instead of DDR4? In the reviews I read they are pretty darn close, with DDR3 being slightly better. Is that correct? DDR4 is also more expensive, is that right?

It just seems counter intuitive that DDR3 is better than DDR4 in both performance and price.

The only reason to go with DDR3 on a Skylake board, is for re-using existing stock of DDR3, and then: only 1.35 volt DDR3 will work, AFAIK. Almost all Skylake boards are only supporting DDR4 memory.
Depending on the module rating, DDR4 should clock/overclock better than DDR3.

Clock for clock DDR3 seems to come out slightly on top, but you can run DDR4 a lot faster. According to Aida64 my 3200 DDR4 dual channel outperforms X99 quad channel 2133 DDR4 so there must be memory controller improvements.
