Is there any reason to keep my old paystubs?

Not really, but I do it too. I have the last 2-3 years of paycheck reciepts from my work. I've never needed them...

depends on how old.

You never know when you are going to get audited.

You'll never need more than the last 2 stubs for any financing (including a mortage). That is assuming you can produce your W2's for the last 2 years.

Yes keep them.. When we went to buy a house we needed them along with our tax returns to apply for a mortgage.

Are you going to buy a car in the next couple of years? Maybe apply for a loan? Most financing will ask for them. In some cases W-2's are not enough. Finance companies ask for check stubs to show that you have had steady employment in the past X months and that you are still in fact employed with the company. W-2's don't show that.

Correct, but paystubs include YTD so finance companies never need more than 2 stubs (unless they are shady). W2's show your entire yearly income from a particular employer, so combined with your last 2 stubs any legit financing/mortgage company has all the info they need.

I agree with others for the most part. Last 2 paystubs + W2.
Except, i ran into an interesting situation. I had a large deposit like 2 months ago which I had to explain. They wanted to see my paystub from THEN as well. The deposit was a paycheck, the wifes paycheck and our tax return. Even though I told them what is was they still wanted the paystub. Kinda pissed me off......

And? I started saving for my first home first purchase when I was 19... I plan on buying one in the next year or two. I'm 22 now.
