I too have to laugh when I hear the unwashed slam Vista, although they've never used it, or minimally at best. It's infinitely better in every way over XP, and Win 7 improves that experience even further. Lemon Law, sounds like you're ready to get a Mac. By all means, do so. Don't forget your Koolaid at the door....

Exaggeration / hyperbole FTL.

Vista has some very legitimate improvements over XP. It also has a higher minimal HW requirement for an adequate experience, has incompatibility issues with a lot of program versions (I ran into this recently with Quark Xpress 6), and also has some nagging problems which are well documented.

Vista runs like crap on 1G Netbooks. XP is better, and Win7 is better still.

You need 7.3 version of Quark Xpress to run on Vista, problem is XP is so old like a lot of hardware and software that some users still use, Vista was designed for modern hardware just like XP has higher specs then its previous operating systems, personally I have no issues with Vista or Win7 but then I use modern hardware and software,I understand that some users can't for whatever reason.

End of the day we all have to upgrade sooner or later.

Truth! The issue with Quark was irritating as the small business I was working at had to use it once in a while, but not constantly, and the new version is a pretty big $ item for them, as you have to buy copies for each workstation, and they have 5 or 6 people who use it. I ended up putting an XP box on the network that they can take desktop control of, work with Quark 6, then save/send what they need, and back to their work.

EDIT : I dig the Prisoner quote. Have you seen this ?

I had a look :) ,btw I'm quite happy with Linux as well, its was more compatible then what I thought it would be ,also it'll be interesting to see how Win8 turns out down the road with regards to compatibility etc too.
