Finance/accounting industry, we live for pens, excel, and coffee.

Why pens over pencil though? If you are working with numbers, wouldn't it make more sense to be able to erase when needed?

uggg.. gel pens.. runs when u get water on the paper :(

In that case, I use these @ 1.83ea. Gel pens don't write on plastic post-its either, so a ballpoint on hand is always necessary.

Dr. Grip gels are >$5/ea., plus shipping, because that's still cheaper than Staples or Office Depot. But, I only need to replace them if I leave them in the car, with all windows shut, on a hot summer day, or if one gets accidentally stepped on.

Refills: $2-3/2. 1 black lasts around a year, others, no clue, because either they don't need replacing, or they burst.

Pen can't be bought in anything but black ink. Refills can be. Refills can also be bought in finer tips than the pen.

Only, if ya guard your pen with your life maybe.
I use a padfolio that can have pens clipped to it. Otherwise, I lose them for months at a time.

That said, the nonrefillable Foray Stylemark pens have grown on me, lately. I hate it that they sell the samples, though, at Staples, because I have to rummage through like 20 of them to find one of some color a kid hasn't ruined the tip of (you know you are getting old when you realize that you used to be one of those damn kids ;)).

If you have a 18k gold pen that someone gave you or something, sure. :)

I kind of like those pencils, they never run out of ink or dry up.

I like Pilot (G-2 07) pens that made in Japan. The refills are a bit cheaper but not much.

Wood pencil has become my favorite writing implement. I started using them a lot cause I'd fuck up the tips on my mechanical pencils. I like them cause you can tell at a glance whether or not it'll write, and I get some quality fuck off time to sharpen them every so often. I always use a knife, and file the point sharp. I can make a better tip than any machine. My only complaint is the standard hardness is HB. I wish 2H was standard, so the ones I found would be perfect.

I would be spending 2 hours a day sharpening pencils like that. I want to get an auto-rotating pencil for that exact reason - sharpens while it writes.

If I'm taking my time(quality fuck off time :^D ), I can get a tipless pencil perfect in about 40 seconds. If I just need something quick, I can do it in under 20 seconds.

Edit:
Btw, that Rotring in your linked article is an awesome pencil, but don't ever drop it. It's heavy as hell, and if you don't bend/break the tip when you drop it, it's just cause the gods weren't paying attention that time. You'll be punished the next time you drop it :^D
