Is there any real good hard drive testing software?

My spare drive is a 120 gig maxtor. Every time I access it it makes a grinding sound. I already ran Maxtor Maxblast and I did both the quick test and extended test. They both said the hard drive was good with no errors. I also tested it using windows xp error checking utility. It didn't fing anything either.

Is there other software I can run to hopefully fix this problem? The grinding sound is driving me nuts.

You can download and run Hitachi/IBM Drive Fitness Test ver. 3.4. It will check any brand of HDD - but probably will give you the same result. Just for kicks, try running the HDD on its side or even upside down.
