Is there any POINT in me getting a newer gaming mouse?

Hi everyone,

I have a 2005-era Logitech G5. I just realised it was so old when I was flipping through some old pictures and damn, there's the mouse I'm still using.

My G5 still functions fine, but I have the one with the single button on the left. I'd like to have at least two buttons, but I also don't want to be surprised with anything goofy like sensor jitter or idiotic software or whatever, and I don't want so many buttons I'm randomly pressing them while just trying to keep my hand on the mouse. Some time in 2005 I put about half of the weights in the weight cartridge and then never changed them again, I guess I got the "feel" just right for me.

Have mouse sensors improved noticeably since then?

My mouse is mostly used for web browsing, but it needs to be a gaming mouse because I occasionally do manage to summon the free time to play a first-person shooter or [insert any other game here]. I am currently attempting to finish Skyrim, for example, and I have a dozen other FPS games on my to-play list.

I use it on a giant mouse mat that is very close to my tenkeyless keyboard. The only reason I'd want wireless is because occasionally I get close to the front edge of the mousepad and the cord starts to get bunched up and it annoys me.

Thanks!

The two-generation-newer iteration of the G5 - the G500s - doesn't even have user-customizable weights.

So I think that while this one works the way it should, keep it.

I use the Logitech G500s and it does have customizable weights. I highly recommend it.

I use the G500 and it has customizable weight, three configurable buttons on the side (every button is configurable, even the main ones), quick DPI switch (totally configurable software or hardware side), a scroll-wheel release system that is THE best for long web pages (and some games as well), and side scrolling.

On top of that it has been rock solid for me and CURED my wrist pain (can you believe it?!).

Best piece of hardware I have ever owned. Hands down.

I have the g500 and iI at bought a g502 during Black Friday. G502 is super sexy, the sensor is one of the best right now.

I have both plugged in and I think I like the feel of the g502 mouse better.

"I'd like to have at least two buttons,"

I like 3 now days for the lelt side [g500s , g502]
forward , back ,close window
also for gaming 1 more weapon switch button.

I used two on the side. One for Chat, and One for weapon switch when I played CS. Was extremely crucial for my gameplay, definitely helped a lot having at least 2. I'm sure I'd like 3 though if I got used to it, though not sure what I'd use it for currently since I don't play CS anymore.

with a mouse that old, I'd buy a new comparable one...just as a spare. Cause it sucks reaching back into the old bin of parts and having to deal with anything lesser when your main mouse kicks the bucket

I've been using trackballs myself for years, so maybe a moot point.

Once you get used to one, I found it hard to even go back to a mouse long ago.

Not hard I guess, just annoying IMHO.
