Is there any need to install Via 4-in-1 drivers for Windows XP?

Just assembled my new system and installed windows xp. I am using an Abit KR7A-Raid board and I am having problems getting it to shut down. It would show that it is shutting down and then freeze.

I have got a hunch that it has something do to with the Via 4-in-1 drivers. If I only install the graphics drivers that came with my card (Leadtek GF3 Ti200), the system would shut down fine. However, if I install the Via drivers after that, I would encounter the freeze-while-shutting-down problem.

I tried installing Via drivers first and then only the graphics drivers, but then Windows XP would refuse to accept the graphics card driver.. saying that an error has occurred or something to that effect..

Can anybody help me here?

v4.33 is included with the install. If you aren't having problems with a newer version (the newest is 4.36), then just install the graphics drivers and whatnot, and be done with it.

Darn.. I didn't install the Via 4-in-1 drivers that came with my mobo and the system still doesn't want to shut down. I got a feeling Windows XP doesn't like these drivers I installed which are not certified to work with Windows XP. Argh, this is so frustrating. I installed and reinstalled Windows XP about 5 times already. Each time with a clean formatted hard drive.

Hopefully, with future updates, my problem will be solved. Any suggestions as to how I can solve my problem??

XP shutdown is somewhat of a common problem. Try and find some notes by btvillarin . . . he has a great home page with lots of good XP tips, including shutdown.

I`ve installed the latest Via 4.36 and VIA AGP 4.10 on my XP with no problems so if you want to try them being you`ve alreaady formatted 5 times you`ve nothing to lose.

I have the same problem with the same motherboard and win2k (starts to shur down and freezes with a no text on screen just background color) Leme know it the 4.36 helps

Well.. I seem to have solved the problem by updating my Windows XP.. Hmm.. not sure which update was the one that fixed it but I am glad that the problem is gone. However, shutting down is still very slow. I think it takes about 20 secs at least to shut down. Somebody mentioned elsewhere that the slow shut down may be solved by disabling the nvidia drivers helper. Any idea how I can accomplish that?
