Is there any Media Center that doesn't require a third party program to run like java?

I love both Beyond TV and Sagetv but after trying them out I just hate having to have to install a third party program just to use them. I know there is always windows media center but I don't really like it because it doesn't have the options I need.

Is there any others out there like Sagetv but doesn't need a third party program like java to run or does Sagetv have any plans to have a version so it won't require any third party programs ?

Just to be clear I am not talking about like .NET Framework 2 and Visual C++ because those really don't run in the background constantly like java does for the most part.

Java is no more running in the background that .NET is.

Java ends when the program using it ends. Are you concerned about the tray icon? Simply select to not show that, it itself is not 'java'.

That doesn't always happen though. No. I was considered with java staying open constantly if it doesn't close properly.

Well it is not always a application that needs java. Sometimes this seems to happen with things online that need java.

Thanks I didn't realize I could use my tv capture card with xbmc as well. I thought it was only a program to organize all your media. Neat.

The java icon does not bother me having java still running the background when not needed does. So I think I decided I may try the new version Java SE 6 Update 10 RC, which moves the Java plugin into a process outside of IE. This is kinda like Adobe flash player runs. This may help a lot.
