IS there any harm to snorting some medications that are Immediate Release formulations.

Medications that are immediate release, deliver there entire dose immediately once in the stomach or small intestine ( depending upon the formulation of the medication).

So what adverse effects would happen if i snorted them? Shouldnt it be the same thing? Other than the site of absorption is different.

Huh.. lol

I don't generally go around snorting random medications, so I have no idea.

For example, you have a killer headache, need analgesia as soon as possible. So you take 2 excedrin pills crush em up and snort them.

As one poster said possible irritation to your nasal mucosa but otherwise...?

But then again if it was that easy manufacturers would just make medications in nasal sprays...

whatever effect it has are typically stronger, and starts happening MUCH quicker. Also, keep in mind that even though they are instant release, snorting them means they don't dissolve with anything in your stomach (s. acid or anything) and goes basically direct into your bloodstream

It won't kill you immediately if that's what you're asking.

Depending on the fillers it could burn like hell or not be too bad.

You also run the risk of the drug not being water soluble, thus ensuring the time spend crushing the pill and the pain endured snorting said pill would be in vain(the drug needs to be water soluble in order to enter one's blood stream after insulflation).

What tweak said. The drug will hit you faster and stronger but will last for a shorter duration. Though you still will probably get (lesser) effects if the drug is not water soluble because the drip will go down your throat and to your stomach.

But people that crush/snort pills are looking to get off from them... crushing up Excedrin and snorting that? *shudders*

Depends on the pill. It's not quite as bad as one would think actually.

Yes, drugs are designed to be taken via a certain delivery path. Different tissues and organs will absorb the medication differently and react differently. You can cause some serious damage to yourself by "improving" delivery methods.

some medications need the low pH of the stomach to be transformed into their active form. fyi
