is there any hard drive with quieter seeks than barracuda IV?

That SR article is comparing the Samsung drive to the new Seagate "7200.7" which is a faster drive than the two generation old Barracuda IV that the original poster is referring to.
How rapidly are the Hard Drive makers adopting changes? The first time I can recall seeing noise levels mentioned often about drives was when the 80 GB PATA I bought 5-6 months ago was introduced (and it refers to itself as an ST3800 13A-RK).

It's also called a Barracuda, but the packaging doesn't mention the "7200.7" numbering. For that, I had to lean over and squint inside that PC, which has the side off still because I haven't gotten around to doing a good job of neatening/re- routing the wiring harness since the last changes that disturbed that. I hope that a more recently acquired Seagate Barracuda 120 follows the same pattern -- it's going into an HTPC, assuming I locate a matching mATX size PSU with more power than merely 150-180 watts for the case I want to use.

The 80 is the quietest of any drive I have in use on any of three running systems (well, of the desktop PC systems anyway, since the 2 1/2" drive in my laptop is probably slightly less noisy, but it runs more slowly, and has a very much smaller capacity).
