is there any good movies about the DDR?

why do all of those dictatorships/commie countries have "Peoples' Republic" or "Democratic" in their name? Who were they foolin'?
 
I thought a lot of those countries had elections, but only one person was deemed qualified enough to be on the ballot? 🙂

Technically communism is supposed to be the "freest" of all governments. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way and what is now called communism is usually despotism or a variation thereof.

My history teacher in HS said you can always tell communist nations because they have the most democratic sounding name, while the democratic ones have bland sounding names.

United Soviet Socialist Republic
People's Republic of China (this one actually does sound a little commie)
German Democratic Republic (above formula in purest form)

vs.

United States of America
Federal Republic of Germany (west germany)
