"Good value" and "good" are often hard to get together in any product. 15" are pretty inexpensive lately. Looks like 17" is becoming bottom rung. I'd avoid anything made by Pixie. Samsung's now have a good rep, however you have to be SURE that you're not buying one of their old model monitors. CTX's are good, but ONLY if "CTX" is printed on the FRONT of the monitor. Their bargain basement "X-50's" only have "CTX" molded into the back of the monitor. The X-50's are OK, but their max vertical refresh at their max resolution of 1024x768 is 68 Hz. Flicker'll drive you bonkers with light colored desktops.

If these criteria: 70 Hz(or faster) @1024x768, and a three year warranty are met, you're almost there. OSD(On Screen Display) is nice, but not necessary. Whichever monitor you decide on, ask the store to plug the monitor YOU'RE gonna get into a PC. Have a look at it. Be nice about asking, few folks do. When they get it home and fire it up, and it's not right, it's APITA. Avoid it!

Hi there

I've got a CTX PR510T (15" trinitron tube) on my second machine, and it does 1024 at 85hz pin-sharp (bit small tho). Nice screen, but a bit on the expensive side - paid £140 new for it a year ago (bout $200), but the price has dropped a fair bit since then.

cheers

Just about any good brand 15 inch monitor is good value, they are all cheap. Just get a brand name like viewsonic, samsung, ctx, maybe even the sonys will be cheap enough.

Hey, even tho we know Pixie isn't great, I'd thought I'd post this great price anyway from t&chb@argins:

Staples.com has the Pixie 750 (17 in) for $180
use a coupon for 40 off, rebate for 50 off. Final price ~ 90 shipped
