Is there any game better than WWII Battleground Europe?

Yes. It's the only game of it's type still out there. ARMA is an arcade shooter compared to this, IMO.

Biggest issue facing a WWIIOL....COST, very expensive to play. Learning curve, you MUST join a squad if you want to have fun. Going SOLO can be fun, but the real winner is when you fire up teamspeak and work as a combined unit with a dozen or so other people.

The game has given me some of the most fantastic experiences I've ever had, and it's never been matched. It's also given me some of the most boring experiences I've ever had. (Like doing supply runs, defending something that may or may not be attacked) It's very realistic. One of the most player driven games I am aware of.

I usually jump in for 3-4 months out of the year, usually near christmas time.

It just won it's PR campaign to get put on Steam Greenlight, so hopefully they will increase playerbase soon. A big playerbase is key to this game being fun.

Here's a shot of someone shooting video of 2 of us doing AA defense, knocking out the propeller of a enemy plane that was doing a scouting run.

Make sure to run in 1080 :)

Also, something that is funny is that the game is extremely popular in the american south and europe. Chances are you either will hear a southern drawl or an english/german accent. Some people get turned off by this, but for whatever reason this is the core base that has remained throughout it's 10 years.

Its amazing no one has tried to make another game like this. This is really the only real war game out.

Other games are just little mini instanced battles that mean nothing. WW2 online is a real war campaign.

Unfortunately the developers of this game have less money than me and thats evident in the product.

Ideally one of the big companies would make a game like this but theres no reason for them to when people keep buying up crap like Titan Fall.

if a big publisher takes it, the whole community will freak out. The community is prone to freak outs just as it is, and numerous people threaten to bail on the game when there is one change in the program (yet they keep coming back anyway).

Also, the direction of the game would possibly change to make it less hardcore, and then, less appealing as a unique product. Not to say they haven't made it less hardcore over the years (mobile spawns and forward bases are huge examples)

I wonder why nobody tried though....not even an attempt? ARMA probably comes close, but those are two very very different games. I'd say if you are a fan of ARMA, you'll be a fan of WWIIOL.

This game desperately needs to be updated to a 64bit structure...along with a complete engine upgrade. They just don't have the money to do it.

Is there any game better than WWII Battleground Europe? Yeah, I can think of about a million.

Obviously it's not game of the century, but OP means specifically is there a better game in the genre of WWIIOL...and there isn't, because there aren't any.

It makes planetside look like an ugly cluster of ADD children.

I guess there is no other game like it indeed considering it focuses on WW2 on a grand scale. If only they had more money to polish it up indeed.

On another forum, one new guy who joined a clan complained that he spent hours and hours guarding a supply depot that nobody attacked. He was bored as hell. I imagine this can be common with games like this which try to be as realistic as possible.

I am still undecided whether or not I will pay a monthly fee to play this game.

How is the F2P aspect of this game, do they make you buy more ammo and stupid stuff?

No, they just keep you from gaining "rank"

basically, you get access to recruit level gear...although sometimes they run special promotions on campaigns where they let F2P levels gear up to higher levels.

If you are a "premium" subscriber, which bascially means you pay the monthly fee, you can gain rank by getting points from succesful missions and killing people. Then you can unlock better equipment.

Rank is everything, there is no such thing as in game credits a'la world of tanks.

Other then being a lowly rifleman or low tier tanker, you have complete access to everything just like everyone else.

So can a F2P rank be more than a rifleman?

Not entirely sure...but I THINK so...but sometimes this is later in the campaign once more equipment unlocks.

The game is Campaign based. And you win by basically capturing strategic areas.

All attack orders on towns are player based....and even the tech research is player based. You don't start the game with Tiger panzers....those come with weeks of research. And that research capability can be bombed and reduced by enemy planes.

I think towards the latter part of the campaign (if you even get there), more advanced equipment is unlocked to F2P players.

It should be described in detail on the website.

What we need is something that has the gameplay of Planetside 2 or Battlefield, but perhaps just a touch more...realism, nothing like WW2 OL is now but a touch. The real greatness of WW2Ol is the map size and the overall war.

Or the same thing but on an interplanetary basis - a true Star Wars MMOFPS, complete with orbital drops!

Meh, I didnt say for a big publisher to take it. I said for a big company to make a game like it.

Sorry, I dont speak weird uber nerd. Care to translate into English?

The problem with Planetside2 is theres no point. Its combat with no point. There is no objective either side is trying to achieve. WW2 has a point, it has a real war with an objective. The structure of WW2 online is superior to PS2 but it lacks the polish and refinement of PS2.

And Battlefield is an instanced game so it doesnt really compare.

Is there any game better than WWII Battleground Europe? Yeah, I can think of about a million.

Lol. I think he's asking if there's a game like WW2 online but better. In which case the answer would be no. The closet thing would be PS2 but PS2 has no objective and is dumbed down.

Hey all,

http://www.battlegroundeurope.net/home

Anyone play this game still? If so, is this the absolute best game like its type out there?

Even better than all the ARMA series of games and mods?

Planetside 2 would be the closet thing I could think of. But PS2 is lacking the actual war, no campaign. PS2 takes a lobby shooter and makes the maps persistent, thats the only difference between it and games like COD.

Heh, I had this game on day 1. Haven't played it in many years but I check up on it from time to time to see if they have released the new version that they have been working on forever.

I think the launch of this game is pretty much the textbook case of everything that could be done wrong, was. And years later they are still paying for it.
