how old is your kid?

17 months...but it doesn't matter, he's never getting spanked.
yeh, i figured he was little yet.

did you ever get spanked?

Yeah my mother did, up until the time I started hitting her back.

Looking back, I'd sometimes get spanked for hitting my little brother. I don't know what my mother expected to teach, I mean, she was hitting me to teach me not to hit my little brother.

My parent's spanked me when I was a kid. After I was 10 or so, that quit, simply because I didn't care. 10 minutes later I'd be out messing around with my friends, so it didn't really faze me. Then the grounding started. :( Should have acted like the spankings were actually bad. My parents never hit me in the face though, my dad looked like he wanted to a few times. If that happened the sh1t would have really hit the fan though, he's gotten kinda soft.

Nothing wrong with smaking a child if they do wrong.

When I have children if they do something wrong, you can be sure mr metal fly swatter will make sure they never do it again.

I know a parent who disciplined their child by having the child smack it self in the face, and the child struck the self very hard. I didn't anything wrong with this method of discipline.

Luck you. Growing up, in my family if my bro hit me, nothing happen to him, but if I layed on hand him I got the broom. I remember one time he cut me on my face so I pushed him. Parents asked him if he was ok, then slaped me across my face. This was because he was older.

wtf? Both me and my brother would get smacked up for hitting EACH other or if one hit the other. If I was a parent, I would never let my older son hit my younger son (and if he hit my younger daughter... ooh...). Older brother should protect younger brother

I love the "I was spanked, and I turned out fine" retorts.

My uncle raped me, and I turned out fine. Still doesn't mean it's ok.
and so begins the slippery slope

In my family it wasn't like that. Hell I got smacked for speaking my brothers name. It is a cultural thing. It sucks to be the youngest child.

Clearly, he's right. Just because spanked kids "turn out OK", does NOT make it right. You'd like to believe it was the spankings that made them OK, but if that were true, it would be the method of choice in our schools, right?

I mentioned to my mom how much more safety conscious we are today, compared to when I grew up. She said, "Oh we never worried about that stuff, and you turned out OK." Yeah, "stuff" like tempered glass sliding doors, riding our bikes at night with no lights, wearing seatbelts... hey, but we turned out alright!

Actually, they're both examples of violent attacks on another person. Just because rape is arguably a worse attack on a person doesn't make spanking an "OK" thing to do.

i was hit with a stick a couple of times...(my mom would chase me around the house) haha! But I probably deserved it. My parents never grounded me because everything I own was in my room so it would have been a good time for me!
