I just got a new tv & was wondering if there was any software that I could download, burn to a cdr & pop in my set-top dvd player & would display test images so I could properly adjust my tv picture. I am aware of Video Essentials & AVIA, but they are exspensive & i was just wondering if there was any software that I could download & burn and do roughly the same thing. Thanks

You could just make a test pattern, make a video out of it, burn to VCD, and adjust the TV to it. You'd just be calibrating the TV to the DVD player, but it seems that's what you want to do.

I'vr been working on TV's for over 15 years and unless you have electronics experience I would NOT suggest you try to align your TV...leave it to an E.T., inside a TV there can be up to 31KV of electricity

Maybe he's talking about setting up the brightness, tint etc... I wouldnt recommend opening your TV (specially since its new and would void the warrenty).

Im just talking about adjusting the color, tint,...etc-not opening my TV. Video Essentials & AVIA have test discs on DVD, but they go for $40~$50. Maybe a place like blockbuster rents them?

set your vcr to record some station that actually signs off. pbs here in NYC does that on sunday nights.

the test pattern is what you use for color.

geometry is something else.

professionals have their own equipment to display this and geometry things to adjust stuff.

do not use a digital source to do anything though. unless it is precisely calibrated for whatever tv format you use (NTSC here in the US)...
