i'm looking to buy the tv wonder or the tv wonder ve. i believe that the ve only lacks the ability to video capture (correct me if i'm wrong). and since i'm not very interested in video capture, is there ANY difference in picture quality between the two? is it worth saving the extra $$ and getting the ve?

thx in advance

TV Wonder: Stereo Tuner
TV Wonder Ve: Mono Tuner

Both cards support video capture, but the VE only supports ATI's dorky VCR-1 compression, the TV Wonder supports Mpeg1(maybe mpeg-2 now) compression (both capture Raw AVI) The Tv Wonder also has a s-video input(for vcr/camcorder), the VE does not(only capture through the tuner).

since the ve is a mono tuner, is the image quality degraded? or is the same?

the VE is mono instead of stereo.

As far as quality...it is the same quality but it wont scale as large..meaning it doesnt do 640-480 and satys i think at 320x200.

Also cant capture with mpeg2 and only in avi

I have the VE. It's adequate for my needs and is very cheap ($39.95 after rebate at BestBuy). The video quality is pretty good and the sound is OK. The only gripe I have about it is that it doesn't support on-the-fly mpeg compression like the TV Wonder. What I normally do is record the clips in ATI's VCR-1 format (.avi) and then use a freeware utility like Avi2Mpeg to convert it into a generic .mpg or .vcd format. A bit of a pain in the ass, but I saved $40 this way. The regular TV Wonder was $79.95.
