My friend wanted to get one of thoes phone line networks (so she can share 'net connection), and she said she had RJ-11 wire. Is there any difference betwene RJ-11 and the normal phone line?

RJ-11 refers to the connector type, it doesn't necesserly have anything to do with the type of wire used.

If you mean is there a difference between cat3 or cat 5 and phone line the answer is yes. Higher catagories of wire have more twists per inch for emi rejection. I'm not sure if phone line is even twisted at all.

Oh, okay, than in that case, is there any difference between whats sitting on the end of my phone and what my friends got on the end of her wire? Or is RJ-11 just regular phone connectors?

Thanks

All phone lines have RJ-11 ends that plug into your wall. Networking cables as in cat-5 have RJ-45 ends. The RJ-45's looks like the
RJ-11 ends/jacks but a little bigger. There are differant phone line type but some have more pairs of wires running threw them but shouldn't matter. I do believe the 4 pair of wires listed below are smaller wires though.

The only two type on phone wires that ive seen is:

Green
Red

Black
Yellow

OR

Green
Green/White

Blue
Blue/White

Orange
Orange/White

Brown
Brown/White

So yes whats on the end of your Phone lines should be the same as your friends. RJ-11 Jacks.

Hope this helps :)

well... in terms of plugs, it's technically true.

remember, there are several kinds of phone wires and plugs, plugs that can accomodate 2 pair as in 4 wires, and plugs that can accomodate 3 pair as in 6 wires.

a phone line uses 2 wires (1 pair). that is what rj11 is technically known as. BUT RJ14C (2-pair), or RJ25C (3-pair) are also used for phones, and are not rj11...

BUT the 6 wire jack, is called rj11.

confusing huh...
