is there any difference between sharper image and generic ion air cleaners?

my room has a dust problem. i clean often, but there is always a ton of dust. i always seem to be congested and i think this is why.

anyways, a buddy of mine got a kit to build a negative ion generator, and he loves it. i think it's really cool as well, and seems to clean the air quite well.

the kit is here:

after looking at that, i decided to check out ebay. i see a few other generic models floating around. here's one that looks interesting:

and then obviously, the sharper image ionic breeze models (the GP model especially looks interesting).

the one on ebay seems to have a feature that releases a small amount of ozone which can kill airborne viruses, bacteria, mold, etc. is it really true that ozone is bad for you? even in the extremely small amounts that this thing puts out?

does anyone have experience with any of these generic units that knows how they compare to an expensive unit like ones from the sharper image?

advice?
thanks.

Look at the size of those collector plates/rods must be... you'll be cleaning it every day (that is if they work).

i'd rather clean the rods every day than be breathing the stuff in 🙂

There was a thread about this not long ago. Do a search for it.

i did. i found 2 results, and both had to do with how to clean the sharper image units.
