Is there any chance that the Inquirer got this one right?

A document seen by the INQUIRER claims that ATI will beat Geforce 7800GTX by as much as ninety per cent in the Fear Demo. ATI claims it will end up almost forty per cent faster in Battlefield 2, while it will top Nvidia's fastest card as much as twentyfive per cent in Far Cry.

I hope it's right. Then I hope nVidia follows up with 7800 Ultra.

If they can make 7800GTX in a laptop, then a faster desktop part cannot be too far behind.

If it does beat the gtx that badly, the only thing I see Nv doing is releasing a higher clocked, 512mb ultra, and even then it's questionable if it can match the x1800xt. It's hard to believe a 16pipe card can beat a 24 pipe card so badly, but if the leaked gpu diagrams are true, those pipes are so different that you cant really compare them apples to apples anymore.

If the document actually existed then I think the way it is worded it would certainly be possible- without it being much faster then the 7800GTX, perhaps even slower

Read it carefully- it offers no disclaimers as to what exactly they mean. When staring at a wall in any of them perhaps? It doesn't say. I'm not saying the R520 won't demolish the 7800GTX- just that the way this is worded it could be comlpetely accurate while the board ends up being overall considerably slower then the GTX(not likely, but possible).

From reading that the GPU looks like its the most parellel core ever!

It would be sweet if it was true, but lets just settle down and wait for the NDA to be lifted. Speculation is fun and all but most of those specs could be complete marketing.

Of course if they are true I guess I will have to whip out the ole CC on release lol.

Even if Nvidia does counter with a card that passes the X1800XT in performance, they cannot match it in features and image quality. They will not be able to match ATI in features/IQ until they come out with a redesigned GPU, probably G80. Smart buyers will buy for features/IQ because these cards are already so fast, a few percentage difference in performance just doesn't matter much.

Want to see 1600x1200> res game benches with high AA/AF settings first. Everything else is irrelevant and considered BS.

It would be nice, if true. But I will wait until AT posts their review. Then of course, there is the issue of availability.
Still, 25% in Far Cry ... my favorite game ... it would be nice.

Doubt its true. Those slides aren't comparing apples to apples. The R1300 should compare to the Geforce 6800 since the prices have dropped significantly since the Geforce 7800 came out.

The X1300 MSRP is $99 i doubt there are any 6800 for that much.
