is there any benefit/downside to using DVI

I have a 6600GT and a CRT monitor (which doen't use DVI...), the card came with both a "normal" a DVI connector, and a plug to adjust DVI to normal connection. My question is, will there be any benefit for me, if I connect my CRT to the DVI exit, instead of the noraml one...?

The VGA signal is part of the DVI signal if I understand how it works. You wouldn't get any benefit from the DVI to VGA one. You're just extracting the VGA out of the DVI and ignoring the rest of it. It's not going to be better or worse than the standard one.
