It has been cause of some trouble, locking up my entire system as I try to watch .avi. I have realplayer and quicktime but they won't play some moviefiles. What else is there out there. Oh, I have the latest winmedia... 7.1 I belive.

The latest WMP is 8 . . . comes with XP. You have the most popular alternatives. With WMP you can also add or remove file type play capabilities. Check out TOOLS/OPTIONS and FILE TYPES. Make sure you have checked what you want to watch. About the only thing it doesn't play are QuickTime .mov files. And that is why I keep QR 5.01 around.

<< Try using WMP 6.4. >>

Yup. The "new" player is so darn slow. Stick with the old one.

Thx ppl, wow, really, I got moved to see the quick response given. Can 6.4 co-exist with 7.1 on a w2k system?

Yup. There should be a file called 'mplayer2' somewhere on your system (if you haven't got XP and haven't removed or not installed WMP 6.4). This is WMP 6.4.

I just had to download 7.1 because I couldn't get 6.4 to work with my favorite radio station's stream.

Wow, it certainly is bloated. I liked the smaller, simpler interface of 6.4 much better, but at least it works.
