Is there an XBox 360 controller that has a D-pad...

Any suggestions? The D-pad on the standard controller for the 360 is horrendous. I'd like to find a wireless (preferably) 360 controller with a decent D-pad.

Well, I doubt this will help you, but I know some people modded the standard Microsoft controller to improve the d-pad.

Yeah, because of MS's proprietary wireless format, there really aren't any 3rd party options for 360 controllers.

I just read in GI Microsoft is coming out with a special "green" controller with an improved Dpad.. Supposedly its going to be released at the same time as, and specifically for the new FIFA game. Problem is, the controller is going to be offered in the EU and JA markets only so you will probibly be stuck buying an import (assuming it works on US boxes).

Hopefully, if they become popular enough they will be released here, or at least update future controllers to the new design.

Supposedly it is a 16-direction pad instead of four, and according to Microsoft will not be released to North America, nor will existing controllers be updated to include this new design. To top it all off, it's a "limited edition" offering in Europe, Asia and Latin America.

I think the best example would be for Oblivion and Fallout 3. You use the d-pad for weapon/spell selection. The d-pad is fine for using up/down and left/right for selecting weapons/spells. But it is awful when you are trying to select something diagonally.

It is pretty bad. I remember having a heck of a time trying to beat the final boss in The Simpsons Game...game.

Hmm...this doesn't sound promising. Any references to how those people modded their MS controllers?

And I guess I have to ask, then...any one know any wired controllers with good D-pads?

Oh no wonder. I haven't played either of those. It seems okay for the games I played so that's why i was asking. They should take the PS dpad design then it'd be the ultimate controller.

Heh, you must not have played any fighting games like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat either. :)

That's exactly what I was thinking about when I asked. The only game I've really used the d-pad on is Castlevania SotN, and it was terrible. I'm thinking I'd like to play Street Fighter, and probably Virtua Fighter as well with the d-pad, and feel like there's got to be a better solution.

You buy a fight stick if you're gonna play fighting games, just like you would buy a driving wheel to play a driving game. But that's just me.

Oh, and for Bionic Commando Rearmed. I want a good d-pad for that too.

I always sucked with joysticks/fight sticks anyway. :p
