Teamspeak isn't nearly as awesome as Ventrilo, but it costs money to have a Ventrilo server that can have more than 8 people on it at a time. Is there a 3rd party product that is just as good?

You could host a Ventrilo server for free. The "paid" ones cost money because you're using someone else's bandwidth.

Edit: I used to host one for my friends and I. It was running as a service on my computer so I never even noticed it.

It does if you want to host a server with more than 8 people. Let me edit my post to reflect this

Wow, you are seriously confusing me. The only other service i see is the 'Pro', which actually requires a business license to buy.

Okay, I'll lay it out for you then

With Ventrilo anyone can download and use the client. That's easy

You can also download the free version of their ventrilo server, but it can only host up to 8 people, no one else can connect once the server is full.

If you're a business, you can purchase a Ventrilo server that handles 1000+ people. Businesses that own Ventrilo servers often sell server space to users for a monthly fee. This way people can have small personal servers (like 25 people, 50 people, 15 people, etc.); for a monthly fee you're borrowing server space from a business server.

It would surprise me if people haven't made an open source program that works like the Ventrilo server without the 8 person limit.
