Much like Pasadena, CA to Los Angeles, Alexandria, va to DC...etc. I am looking for a walk and perhaps check out some specialty shops along the street. I am tired of all the tourist stuff...it's boring to me.

Anything on the new jersey side too?

About 30 min or so north of Philly there in new hope in pa and lambertville in nj

Those would meet your criteria I believe

Old City is one of the city's popular nightlife destinations, with lounges, dive bars, and quality restaurants, mostly along the three blocks from 3rd and Market streets to Front and Chestnut streets. The 3rd Street Corridor, between Market Street and Vine Street, is home to galleries, boutiques, and other locally owned businesses. Landmark Theatres operates three Ritz movie theaters in the area that specialize in art films. During the popular monthly First Friday event, shops hold evening-hours open houses featuring art, design, and fashion. Since 2010, tech firms have moved to the area as well.

Is there an old town near Philly? You realize, I hope, that Philadelphia is one of the oldest settlements in the U.S.? Right downtown you have Headhouse Square, Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, the Betsy Ross house, and a slew of colonial era attractions. You could easily spend a long weekend and not see everything.

But if none of that seems appealing, yes, New Hope and Lambertville are very nice, in a touristy, coffee house, art gallery sort of way.

Manassas is better than Alexandria.

Umm no. Manassas was not even a "place" until after the Civil War whereas Alexandria has been around since 1749 and has a ton of historical sites to see. Plus we have enough traffic out here, why encourage more? 😉

A ride on the PATCO hi-speed line will take you to Haddonfield, NJ. The town was established in the 1600's and has several historical sites including the Indian King Tavern. The state charter was created there. I believe later it was a stop on the underground railroad.

they also IMO arguably have one of the best sushi restaurant in the whole Philly metro area if you ask me. Haddonfield is a dry town though, so no bars I think. Collingswood NJ is a cool place to walk through as well with some good places to drink and is a stop on the patco.
