Is there an NForce board that supports SDR -and- DDR? I'm trying to avoid the ECS problems...

I'm cobbling together a system for a relative, for word processing and net surfing mostly. I have an 10 gig 5400 drive, an extra stick of pc133, and an 800 duron already, and some old scavenged rage 98 variant, plus an old beige enlight case w 300W PSU.

A few months down the road she'll probably wanna upgrade to ddr, processor and a decent vid card, but right now there's no cash to shell out for it.

SO, anyone know what fairly integrated mobo's support sdr -and- ddr? I seem to remember the NForce's memory controller supported both types of memory, but did anyone actually implement it?

I know the graphics on the 420 aren't great but I'm sure they're better than this card I have here.

I leery of buying the ecs "k7sklaatubaradanikaa;lksdjfdslflsjfldka;jaljajdldkjsaas;dlf" since I especially don't want to spring for another PSU, I might as well shell out for some ddr in that case.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Besides, an underpowered PSU will bite you sooner or later - some boards will show you right away,
others might do their best until the PSU gives up and maybe damages some other hardware on its
way out. I've seen that happen. More than once. People don't listen.

But if you stick with all that low spec gear, a 300 Watt PSU might be good enough. Check the power
allowance on +5V/+3.3V (should be at least 120W for that combination). The +5Vstandby rail should be
1.5 amperes at least.
You can certainly do worse than with a K7S5A (aka M830LR) - you might even want to think about skipping
that old Rage 98 and get an integrated-video K7SOM board (aka M841LR) instead. That one comes
with everything - VGA, sound, LAN, and a modem card.

There are no nForce SDR boards, that being said, I would not hesitate to go for ECS K7S5A or ECS K7SOM. Both are solid boards, provided you use good PS's. I myslef am on a K7S5A right now with PC133 on an Antec PS, and its as stable as a rock
