Is there an issue with the Radeon and <--Soldier of Fortune--> ?

Soldier of Fortune keeps locking up in a certain spot and I want to see if the registry hacks will help. Thanks in advance -

Update: the registry hacks did nothing, I still get lock-ups. I am using the 7062 drivers, although I am downloading the 7072's right now to test them out. Does anyone else have the same problem? SOF is locking up right at the end of the first level: the scene where John gets on the train. Thanks again.

Never played SOF, but from what I know its runs on the Quake2 engine which is OpenGL. It don't think that D3D reg settings will make any difference in an OpenGL game. Its odd that a lockup would happen at the same point in the game everytime. This is just a guess, is anisotropic filtering enabled in your OpenGL settings? If so, try disableing it.

oldfart,
Anisotropic filtering is enabled. Will this cause lock-ups? The weird thing is that I got past the part that was locking up and the computer hasn't locked up yet. For some reason, I had to take it real easy at that part of the game or it would lock up. But it's running fine now. I hope that there isn't another part of the game that causes this lockup. I will try disabling anistropic filtering next time this happens. Thanks again.

I found out through playing that the game freezes on the first level with the train and also on the third level in Kovoso. It would lock up when trying to get to the heliopad after Hawk bombs the place.

I got fed up after that (I couldn't get past that part, it kept locking up!) and put my Prophet 2 MX back in. I wanted to see if it was the video card locking up the system. Sure enough, the MX got through it no problems. Looks like the Radeon has a compatiblity problem with SOF, at least on my machine. I wish the Radeon worked, it's so much faster than the MX. I guess the MX will have to do for now :(

Turning off Anisotropic filtering didn't help? I've seen this cause lockups in Q2. Have you tried running the game in 32 bit? In q2, it will use the desktop color depth. In Half-Life, you add -32bpp to the shortcut you use to launch it. No idea if any of these will help but I thought I'd throw them out.

TBirdJC,
Is there some documentation somewhere on the web about the incompatibilities between SOF and Radeon? Do you have personal experience with this particular combination not working?

oldfart,
Thanks for the help; I tried everything I could think of including updating the drivers to 7072's and still no dice. I may try again later when this card has more compatible/advanced drivers to work with.

I have the radeon 64 mb VIVO and Soldier of fortune. I have no problems with the game. Have you upgraded to soldier of fortune gold.

Is used to have lock ups after the first level wit the train level. The lock ups were coming from eax from my soundblaster live sound card. I you have such a soundcard turn of eax sound in the game. I you have completed the train level turn it back on. Even with the latest upgrades there are soundproblems with eax. I don't believe it is coming from the radeon as my previous videocard (TNT2 32 mb)had the same lock ups.
