Hello All.

I have run into a problem.

I have 4 IDE devices taking up all of my IDE ports on my mobo and I have no place to install another IDE HD.

So I was wondering if there is some sort of IDE to SATA adapter I can use to plug into my IDE HD and connect it to the SATA port?

If not, what are my options? Getting an IDE PCI addin card?

thanks!

I believe your only option is to get an IDE controller card. If you don't need many special features, you can probably get it pretty cheap...

First off: Serial ATA is a form of IDE (integrated drive electronics).
Also within IDE is Parallel ATA. (Or PATA)
Parallel is the old standard and everbody just got used to calling IDE because hard drives never moved data in serial before.
Now we have something different that needs to be kept seperate.

You can not get a simple adapter because one is moving data in parallel and the other is moving data in serial.

You can add PATA, SATA or SCSI ports to your computer with PCI cards.
You can RAID or not, its all up to you.

Check Pricewatch.com, pricegrabber.com for expansion cards to do this.

(P.S. Peripheral Communications Interface, Small Computer System Interface and Redundant Array of Independant Disks.)

Possibly, as there definitely were sata->pata adapters (allows a sata drive to be plugged into an pata port) so it is possible someone made one that works the way you want. Probably better off going with a pci card though as it will give you several more (4 or more, most likely) ports just incase you want another drive.

I purchase one of these on Ebay.. I wanted everything using the small SATA cables..

ComputerGeeks has exactly what you are looking for..

IDE To SATA Adapter

That is a PATA to SATA cnverter, he is looking for the other way around, which is not possible. Just get a cheapo controller card unless you need aot of fancy RAID features.

The item I posted has the 40 pin connection to plug into the IDE drive.. and allows you to plug it into a SATA port.. which is what the original poster asked..

you have to also have an extra floppy power connector from your power supply to power the adapter card..

also this item is real small.. as small as a zippo lighter.. doesn't take up too much space on the back of your ide device

very interesting..

have any of you had any problems with the IDE --> SATA converters??

And did you notice any slow downs at all??

Maybe I should move one of my CD drives to the SATA converter and use the original IDE slot for another HD.

I had my IDE hooked up with a Serriell (SP?, the one that comes with the NF7-S v2 mobo)converter. No, I had no problems.

Recently purchased a Syba converter to go along with the Serriell, so I can hook up two IDE's in raid 0. Haven't got around to hooking it up though.
