is there an excercise I can do to *widen* my shoulder span?

I already work my shoulders at the weight room, but all that does is bulk them up. what I want to do is have them spaced farther apart. is there any kind of excercise for that?

you need to work on your back, the part that when you lift your arm up, you can reach around and grab.. I believe they are called lats.

Theoretically, the only thing I can think of would be to physically break the shoulder bones, then pull them out and have them regrow in between, but that's gonna look a little deformed.

well you could at least give the illusion of wider shoulders by maximizing your v-shape features.

doing lat exercises(lat pulldown, wide-grip chin-up) like other posters suggested is good for that as is swimming. you want as small a waist as possible to maximize the effect so don't work your obliques so much(side abs) and when you do workout abs don't go heavy weights/low reps do the opposite, low weights high reps.

yeah, well the reason I was wondering if there's any way to just get wider shoulders is because I looked at myself in the mirror and noticed I have that sort of womanly hourglass shape (my hips are much wider than my waist)
anyway, I'll try some of the things that have been suggested

i had a girly width before but now i'm close to 40...
it does take years u know...ur not growing fingernails.
I did a LOT of pushups, rowing, barbell shoulder presses...good thing is now my shoulders
are damn strong and its almost impossible to make them sore no matter how hard i train 'em.
