I remember reading about a couple of projects a few years back that were trying to make an emulator that played your games from your dvdrom. I can't remember the names but I googled it and only came up w/ unfinished ones that used roms. Since I came up w/ squat I assume it never happened, but google doesn't always get me what I want so I'm asking you guys if you've heard of it or if it was ever made.

No, there are no working emulators for the ps2/xbox/gamecube generation of consoles. There are a few projects to do so, but as far as I know none of them are near working. There are fake files that claim to be emulators that float around p2p but they are viruses and trojans for the most part. The n64 was unique in how quickly playable emulators were written and how well many of them ran. UltraHLE is the most famous and the first, eventually supplanted by emulators that didn't require glide. Anyway I'm surprised no xbox emulator has come out considering just how pc like the insides are, but the ps2 has a very strange architecture by pc standards and is probably less likely to be emulated well ever.

And the GCN is probably the least likely to be emulated, what with using NPDs and all ^_^
