Is there an App for that?

My GF got an iPad for Christmas.

Is there an app that allows one to use the iPad's WiFi connection to Sync with a networked drive (SAMBA) and then say for example pull images from that drive such that the iPad can be used as a digital picture frame among other applications?

There seems to be reviews saying that pictures uploaded/synced to the iPhone/iPad are not full res...which would limit the usability. Not sure if there are any other ones that can do this.
