I'm just wondering if it's possible to use a laptop drive that you have in an external enclosure as a photo drop? Is there a way to connect something like a card reader to the drive, so you can just unload your digital photos on the go?

I did see something similar to this in a digital photography magazine, only it was a reader device that hooked into the Firewire port of the Apple Ipod. I have no idea how it interfaces with the Ipod.

Well, the IPod is already built to store data files; it's just that it's usually holding music, not photos. You'd need a reader device that was smart enough to talk to the hard disk/IPod/whatever and handle creating files/directories/whatever on it. That, I presume, would be the expensive part.
