Is there a way to turn on your comp w/ a remote?

Ok, I know there have been many of these threads....but my question is a little bit more specific. I want to be able to turn on my PC right when I wake up, with the touch of a button, I also want the remote to have play pause, rewind, etc features...Is there any remote that does this? Thanks

The CL remote they were selling at Computer Geeks can do that. Don't know if they have any left. BTW, you can have your confuser turn itself on (sorry, 😉 ) with the RTC alarm. Settings are in the BIOS.

There are several for sale on eBay right now (one goes in less than 1 hr) for LOW $$$.bh.

Can you be a little more specific about this CL remote, I looked on ebay and all I got were car remotes. Who makes it, do you have the website?

Enter in the search field on ebay's home page: creative, labs, remote, control (with commas just as I have it) there are about thirty of them listed right now.

Did you pick up one of those remotes? Let us know here what you find when you have a chance to play with it.

I'm gonna have to get my self one of these, sweet. Anyone know if it 'll have problems if I put two of them, one in a room and one in another room? Do they have unique frequencies or the same?

I don't think so....the main reason I want a remote is to turn on the computer and this remote doesn't do that, so most probably I won't buy it.

AgaBooga et al.,
. I'm pretty sure the CL would all be the same frequency, but they are IR so unlikely to bleed into another room.
. Yeah, that remote doorbell mod is slick. I don't know if you could jerry rig one for less money out of a standard IR transmitter/ receiver pair or not.
Psy44 et al.,
. Have you considered a wireless multimedia keyboard and just set Kbd Power On to Enabled either in BIOS or with jumper. My mobo allows you to enable Kb power up and to choose your own Hot Key.

Edit: Oops, the kbd power-on from my mobo is only from suspend mode (S3) not from true off. I could do that with my previous mobo (super socket 7 from gigabyte).bh.

Ok guys, I did a little research in my mobo manuel and There are several things I can do...

1. Wake Up on Ring/PME#: These fields specify whether the system will be awakened from power saving modes when activity or input signal of the specified hardware peripheral or component is detected. Note You need to have a modem with Wake Up on Ring function
2. PS2 Wake Select Mode: This item specifies the PS2 mouse wake-up mode
3. Keyboard Power on Function from S3: The item specify how the system will be awakened from power saving mode when input signal of keyboard is detected.
4. USB wakeup from S1/S3: The item alllows the activiaty of USB device to wake up the system from S3(suspend to Ram) Sleep state.
5. Resume by Alarm

Well...I don't really understand option number 1 and I don't know if my modem has wake up on ring function. Option number 2 wouldn't work for me because I have a USB mouse, and it doesn't work when I try using a convertor USB-->PS2. Option 3 wouldn't work because I don't have a wirelss Keyboard. Option 4 would be a good idea, except the CL remote is Serial not USB (got any ideas). I guess if worse comes to worst I could go option 5.
So what do you guys think I should buy via what connection(USB, serial, etc)? I don't want a wireless k-board, just a remote...

GO to the girder forums (I think it www.girder.nl then search for forums) .... there they have parts list and diagrams for a remote control for your computer. It attaches to the WOL so it can wake up your computer. advantage over the doorbell mod is that it's one remote control for your computer, you don't have to worry about another random doorbell turning your computer on (or off) ... for that matter you don't have to worry about accidentally turning your doorbell off. Disadvantage is that it's Line of Site ... but really do you HAVE to turn your compter on from the john?

Unfortunately a lot of current mobos apparently have to be in suspend mode (S1 or S3) to be powered up by WOL or WOR or Kbd or Mouse. It used to be that you could power up your computer from true Off with Kbd power up set by jumper and some of the others.
. I would prefer to have the remote be able to do a true power on so I'm sure the girder project could be modified to drive a relay in parallel with the power switch to do the job. I was also thinking about X-10 and "clapper"-type mods to do the on-off chore.
