Is there a way to test my video card for problems?

I'm using a couple of ancient PCs at the moment and I just recently transferred a x850 into an old Athlon box I'm using, but for some reason the card is'nt working like it should. I can't run any games, I've tried playing Hitman (the first one), Fate and even Maple Story with no success. I always get some wierd error message about the video card or some related error. So I tried using Driver Cleaner to remove the current drivers, I did a reboot and reloaded my drivers and I'm still running into the same issue. (I also tried using older drivers which did'nt help)

Are there any utilities out there that I can use to troubleshoot my card?

What can I do to get it working again?

Not too familiar with that card, so this is mostly a free bump.

But is your power supply unit sufficient to handle it?

Also, might check over at majorgeeks.com for some free utlilities/benchies etc.

Good Luck with it,

Fern

well after doing a lot of digging I found out that the issue is with the latest 7.10 drivers by ATI. For some reason the older AGP cards don't always like the new drivers and it practially shuts down any performance using direct3d. The Omega ATI drivers seem to work but now they are making my psu work harder than it should. Sooo I think I'm gonna just bite the bullet and get a new system. I'd like to get a q6600 and possibly the new GTS card when it becomes available. I've been pricing the q6600s for the past few weeks but so far I have'nt really came across any good deals.

driver cleaner has problems with new drivers... did you purchase and use their .net or whatever version or did you use the driver clearner pro? that one is from 2005 and simply will not work with any video driver from 2006 and up.

Your best bet is to do a clean format of the computer.
