Is there a way to tell your processor "batch" in CPU-Z?

My E6600 is... odd. Some days it'll push up to 3.4+ with no problem at all, often UNDER 1.4v. Other days, I have to pump 1.45+ into it to get over 3.25GHz. Lately, it's been the latter.

I saw some discussion about the "F" batch being bad overclockers. I bought this thing sometime between last September and November, and I'm wondering watch batch I got. Can anything in CPU-Z tell me that, or do I need to go scrape off the old thermal compound (which is fine from me - going to try switching from AS5 to MX-1)?

i think the f batch chips are relatively recent, like sometime this year. you could look at the stepping and revision and all that on cpuz then google those figures.

My E6600 retail box says that it is a batch # L649G979 which as far as I know is a "G".

CPU-Z says it is an "F".

Which is correct? Anyone know?

G is part of the batch

F is part of the model

when people talk about A, B, C, F, G... etc.. they are referring to the batch

when people talking about B1, B2, B0, E0, etc... they are referring to the revision

and yes, the only way to tell what batch your cpu is is to look on the IHS or the outside of the retail box
