Is there a way to stream what's on my TV to PC/Tablet?

So, I have a normal digital HD cable box connected to a Samsung LED TV (it has some USB ports I don't use) - and I'd love to have the ability to mirror what's showing on the TV onto my Nexus 7 or the PC in the other room, to essentially make it like having a TV in that room without another cable box, etc.

Is there any way to do such a thing?
 
Depending on your service (mine is comcast) there are apps that allow you to watch live TV on other devices. We watched news and sports channels on our phones when the main TV has something else on. This happened a lot during the Olympics.
