Basically, I got a 128GB SSD and did a fresh win 7 install yesterday.

I wanted some games that i play often like L4D2 to be installed on the SSD, but i also have tons of other steam games that i dont play too often and feel that i dont think its necessary for them to be on the ssd.

Is there a way to have some steam games installed on the ssd and the others on the regular hard drive?

Steammover is about the best software for doing this. It only supports 2 places (the default and the other folder) but it automates the junctions quite well. Price is good too.

You'd be better off using the command line to do this then a program. It's not as if it is difficult to do, and you just may learn something. I use the command line all the time to do things that are messy (or can't even do) in Explorer (like dumping a list of all picture files on a drive into a text document; for my photography - you could search in Explorer and wait, or do a simple command and get the file near instantly).

Rundown of mklink :

1. Move (not copy) game directory (....\Steamapps\Common\GameDirectory)

2. Open the command line (cmd.exe; type it in the search box -Win7)

3. mklink /J "Source directory" "Destination Directory"

example

mklink /J "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\borderlands" "E:\Steam\borderlands"

Has anyone recommended Steam Mover yet? Works perfectly for me; switching between my platter drive and my SSD.

I have Steam installed on my SSD. The steam_apps folder is a symbolic link to a folder on a hard drive. For certain games, I have symbolic links pointing back to the SSD.

Kinda a wierd way of doing it, but that way I can have Steam itself on the SSD so it loads quick, and for any game I can choose whether I want it on the SSD>

SteamTool is another. You can move a game to any drive and I believe it's free
