Is there a way to share a USB device across the network?

My neighbor claims that USB devices can be shared in a network. Is there any truth to this claim? Please let me know how.

I shared a USB drive, but what kind of USB thing are you trying to share.

Yes you can share USB device =printers, zip drives, tape drives, etc etc etc...

That would be something nice if it is true. I have a camera and some speakers that would be cool if they could be shared, but I have this feeling that only drives and printers are shareable.

I've been trying to share my usb scanner on my LAN, no luck so far.

Certain company has a network scanner software that allows you to share, not all has it.

unless the scanner is built specifically for it, no.

you can generally share USB printers, though. cameras - no.

it depends on the device. a usb drive of some sort (cd rom, harddrive) can be shared
