Is there a way to send a message to an ebay member (not a seller)?

I figure the answer is no unless you are involved in an auction with the member, for instance if you are the seller and they the buyer or vice versa. However, I figure there may be a way. Is there?

I am contemplating bidding on an item, went to the seller's feedback, found a buyer who bought the same item and I wanted to ask the buyer a question. I posted the seller asking the same question, and that may be my only source of information. Thanks.

you can send messages. you know when you log in and you go to your eBay home page? on the left side you should see "messages" and click that. i think from there its pretty self explanatory... but there is a place where you enter the eBay user name you want to send the message to.

yup...ive done the same thing asking buyers before..it really helps

Great! Thanks a lot. That's a very powerful asset at eBay.

Edit: It looks to me like I can only send a message if it pertains to an auction, IOW if that person is selling something. I don't see a way to simply contact a random eBay member. Here at Anandtech I can send someone a PM, assuming they have that enabled. I don't see anything like that at eBay.
