Is there a way to rip the sound file on a DVD into a wave or mp3 file?

One of my favorite Elton John performances is on a DVD filmed and recorded in Turkey. I want to be able to play the disk in my car cd or mp3 player without the video..

Anyone know how to do this?

Many ways however here are the two I do most often

1. You can use video conversion software to strip the sound from a video file.

2. (and more common) Most sound cards have a "stereo mix" or a "what you hear" recording option. If you select this, any sound that comes from your computer will be recorded. Use a free program like Audacity.

3. If your sound card doesn't have a "what you hear" or "stereo mix" option then it probably has a line or mic in. You can use a look cable to connect output to input. Using this method you must make sure your software downmixes the audio to stereo or you'll only get the L and R channels out of the 5.1 track.
