Is there a way to mute/unmute sound via kybd on a desktop?

on my laptop, there's a button for mute/unmute.

is there an equivalent for a desktop?

There are keyboards you can buy that have a mute/unmute key on them.

I'm going to guess that you would have to write a little app that did this for you (shouldnt be too hard). You could than assign that app to a keyboard shortcut.

Personally I just push my speaker's power button.
