Is there a way to mount a directory as a directory in XP?

BF2 is dumping lots of cache data into "My Documents". This is ticking me off because I only want "documents" and not huge temporary application data to go there. Is there a way to "mount" these directories to go elsewhere or alternatively redirect battlefield 2 to use another directory for data? The only alternative I see is to create another user account so the cache data doesn't go into my main account documents directory.

TIA

I've never seen my BF2 dump cache into My Docs.

Do all of them do it?

Am I not looking hard enough?

Cause it's new to me.

Check My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\{GUID}
and there's also server logo cache somewhere.

I don't even play BF2 that often and I have 60mb+ of cache data. it's ridiculous :thumbsdown: I noticed it when I was moving my documents directory and saw something was taking extremely long time to copy (the cache files are small)

Oh, thats not so bad. It's all in the BF2 folder so it doesn't bother me. Plus 60mb really isn't all that much.

Yeah I hate the fact that so many games hijack the mydocuments folder to keep settings and stuff, I just hide game folders most of the time. However sometimes the games are stupid and don't work correctly, like Hitman Contracts.

I have no problem with games keeping saved games and personal settings in there. those are after all personal data. but these files are pretty much temporary, internal files generated and used by the game engine (pixel shader optimization files I think), not important/unique personal data. maybe I'm being a little obsessive about this but I have a documents partition which I want to keep "pure" so I don't have to backup junk.

anyway BF2 is the only program on my system that does this crap (bastards :|) so I can just create a separate user account for that.

you can move it anywhere you want using NTFS junctions, so it isn't much of an issue, unless you have a good reason for running FAT32.

i suggest using NTFS Link (google it) as one way to best manage junctions.

it works fine for me, I have a junction like so:

c:\....\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods
which redirects to F:\DB_F\mods
