I'm finalizing the setup of Win2K on my dad's new rig and I want to make it as simple as possible for him so I created a shortcut for our LAN on the desktop (to bypass the 2+ steps if you go through "My Network Places").

Is there any way to hide "My Network Places" altogether?

thx! :)

tweak should work for win2k. also you can run gpedit.msc and that has the option to hide that too, this is a group policy which means your fvcking around with the registry careful when using this program.

start/run type gpedit.msc

when the applet opens look for the bottom option user configuration then go into admin templates then desktop..

6th item down says hide the network places from desktop (not configured)

double click it and select enabled or read the explain tab at the top reboot there its gone

NOTE: be carefull in there you can change a whole bunch of stuff without thinking
