Is there a way to have more than three icons in the quick launch of Win XP?

In 98SE I used to be able to have as many icons as I wanted in the quick launch area.

Also, is there a way to get rid of the ^^ part of the quick launch thing? I don't like it.

Ha! Your suggestion indirectly solved my problem. Actually, "unlock" the taskbar did it.
