Is there a way to get my Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop to boot froma flash drive?

probably from within the BIOS. Hit F2 while booting up to get in there. If it allows you to do that it will be listed in the boot order...
 
Yes. Hit F12 on boot up and you can boot from a USB flash drive. Google for "SP27213.exe" for an HP utility that works well for creating bootable USB flash drives.
