???

I also have another question. How come sometimes it goes around once betting (this is at Pokerparty.com) and then it goes around again? How come it doesn't go around once, then flop, then go around once again, then the fourth and then go around once again and then the final card?

It's not all luck- it's knowing when to hold em and when to fold em. Also if your game involves the art of bluffing, then there's a whole other dimention to master

On a warm summer?s evenin? on a train bound for nowhere,
I met up with the gambler; we were both too tired to sleep.
So we took turns a starin? out the window at the darkness
?til boredom overtook us, and he began to speak.

He said, son, I?ve made a life out of readin? people?s faces,
And knowin? what their cards were by the way they held their eyes.
So if you don?t mind my sayin?, I can see you?re out of aces.
For a taste of your whiskey I?ll give you some advice.

So I handed him my bottle and he drank down my last swallow.
Then he bummed a cigarette and asked me for a light.
And the night got deathly quiet, and his face lost all expression.
Said, if you?re gonna play the game, boy, ya gotta learn to play it right.

You got to know when to hold ?em, know when to fold ?em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when you?re sittin? at the table.
There?ll be time enough for countin? when the dealin?s done.

Now ev?ry gambler knows that the secret to survivin?
Is knowin? what to throw away and knowing what to keep.
?cause ev?ry hand?s a winner and ev?ry hand?s a loser,
And the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep.

So when he?d finished speakin?, he turned back towards the window,
Crushed out his cigarette and faded off to sleep.
And somewhere in the darkness the gambler, he broke even.
But in his final words I found an ace that I could keep.

You got to know when to hold ?em, know when to fold ?em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when you?re sittin? at the table.
There?ll be time enough for countin? when the dealin?s done.

You got to know when to hold ?em, know when to fold ?em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count you r money when you?re sittin? at the table.
There?ll be time enough for countin? when the dealin?s done.

How much are you looking to play for? Luck is a factor, of course, but the real skill is losing the least with a losing hand, and winning the most with a winning one. Sounds simple, eh? :D

Pick up a copy of Sklansky's Theory of Poker, and then read more books based on whichever games you're looking to play (if low-limit Hold'em, I'd recommend Lee Jones' book). Play low limits, and play a tight game, and you'll likely begin to understand the game better.

It only goes around again if it is raised.

I'm mainly just looking to play for fun. I don't plan on gambling my money away. It is just so fun.. especially after watching it on television all the time.

Yep, that's the key. You've got to be able to get a feel for how your hand will do and decide to stay in, how much to stay in, or fold'em. You also have to be good at reading tells from other players and hiding yours.

Before my wife went back to work and ended up with a weekend shift doing property management, a group of friends and I would get together to play poker. We played a hand of 'Follow the Queen' seven card stud and I thought I had the game for sure. Five jacks because of a wild card. The pot got up pretty between me and another guy and he ends up with five kings.

In holdem sometimes its luck but if you read books and get good then you have a much better chance of winning. I highly recommend Caros book of poker tells and the two books the Entity recommended, (i have all 3). Just look at the WSOP the same people always do good and sometime some people just gets lucky.

The problem with the poker places that let you play with free money is that bluffing is all but useless. There is no incentive to really play shrewdly so people always call your bet. Makes it kinda lame.
