Is there a way to get copies of old television episodes?

I've been wondering about this for years. Every now and then one of the networks will run a good series and then just take it off the air and unless you've been lucky enough to record every episode there's no way to watch the show again. So I'm wondering will networks or the producers of these shows sell the general public tapes or DVDs of their shows? If so how do you go about contacting them?

Thanks

Some of the shows I'd love to get a copy of

Dr Katz
The Maxx
Moonlighting (Bruce Willis was in this show)
Dilbert

The EAA (www.eaa.org) has most / all of the old "Sky King" episides on VHS (four episodes per tape, Bamboo bomber and the 310B).

Yeah I want several series but it's just impossible to get some :(

I would really like "Adam 12" but Columbia House (the owner) doesn't plan on ever releasing anything. Hell they won't even renew the contract with TV Land :(
