is there a way to find out what program activated this ad window?

adaware and norton AV cant seem to find anything wrong with my computer, but there are pop-ups every so often with random ads and whatnot. is there any way to find out which process opened the window without going thru each from the task manager?

i did a registry search as well as a 'contains text' search with one of the web addresses and it found nothing.

Download and run HijackThis. Have it generate a log and post the entire contents of the log in this thread.

Also,

1) what year is your Norton antivirus software (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, whatever)

2) what version of Windows do you have (98, ME, 2000, XP) and if it is 2000 or XP, what Service Pack level is it at?

Do you have the messenger service running? Windows Messenger can be used to display popup ads. If you are behind a firewall this probably isn't the cause.

A tool like process explorer will let you figure out what process created a window, and from there you can figure out where it is on disk.
