I'm not seeing it. I want to see people I'm not friends with in rank of how many friends I have in common. Why can't I do this? Why??

the answer is obvious

(1) You dont have any friends
(2) Your friends dont have any friends
(3) Your friends friends dont want to be friends with you

Actually Facebook is really popular among adults. It allows you to lazily keep in touch (with minimal interactions) with all your old friends.

So when someone says "Why do you never call?", you can say "Hey I have a facebook account"?

I could see the plus side of that.

You do short message a few times a year and you've fulfilled your obligations to keep in touch.

"Hey Cousin Larry,
Things here are going good <few sentences>.
Hows your family?"

Do that 2-3 times a year and you no longer have to call the guy. And it seems like you care and want to keep in touch. And quite frankly, short messages like that between distant family seems to be a good way to keep in touch. I like the format.

I used to never talk to my half-siblings. Now I message them a few times a year. Its nice to keep in touch and its easy enough that we actually do it.

It automatically suggests friends for me based on common friends.

I just signed up this week. I thought it was useless before. But now, I see some good value to using it. I've been browsing my friend's and relative's facebook page and have found dozens of fantastic photos of them, me, or both. True, if they were really good friends/relatives they would have already emailed me these photos. But people are lazy. I've found some priceless ones that I wouldn't have gotten any other way.

A secondary benefit is that I can now contact an old but good friend who's phone number and email address changed over the years and I had no other way of contacting.

Yup. This.

My dad found his high school friends on facebook, some he hasn't seen for more than 40 years (class of '65). Soon these people started uploading photos (in black and white!) so I get to see what my dad and uncle looked like back then. I of course had seen some pictures of them from those years, but they were family pictures and not high school crazy party stuff like these :D.

The funniest thing though is reading the banter of all these friends at the comment area. It's a treat reading all these grandpas talking sh*t to each other

Facebook bashing is so 2007. It can be an excellent tool, but it can also be heavily abused. Just because some people have serious social issues that stem from the website doesn't mean that the site itself is at fault.

Well yeah, but it's always the most random people.

Let me be visual. This is what I want to see:

Gerk McGurk - 24 friends in Common ADD AS FRIEND
Shirley McGurk - 23 friends in Common ADD AS FRIEND
Janey McHaney - 22 friends in Common ADD AS FRIEND

You know, in descending order of how many friends in common YET you aren't friends with them? Anyways, the lack of this feature doesn't make any sense because it would be the easiest way to find people you actually know.

"People you may know" does the same thing. It just doesn't say how many friends you have in common, or rank them.

How do I access this feature? I don't see it anywhere.

Didn't work for me, looks like there's some issues with people not seeing it.
