Is there a way to disable/uninstall Macromedia Flash?

You could use Mozilla, and get the "Flash Click to View" extension. With it, flash objects don't display until you click them (so you can still play flash games and stuff, but not see flash ads)

there's a great program called noflash that lets you toggle flash on/off...i keep it off unless i want to play a flash game or hit a web site that requires flash (very annoying)...do a google search for it

If you're using IE just disable the ActiveX controls in the Security section of Internet Options...

If you use Spyware blaster to protect against spyware, it has an option in: tools, flash killer tab to disable and block macromedia. Everyone should use spyware blaster along with adaware and spybot search and destroy.

Well.. Here's what I did. First I wanna see flash stuff sometimes so I created bat files. One to go to the Macromed subdirectory and rename it to something like Macromed.goat. Then I created a second one and made it rename Macromed.goat Macromed.

Then I went to my hosts file found in windows\system32\drivers\etc and put the following line:

0.0.0.0 download.macromedia.com activex.microsoft.com active.macromedia.com

First of course I made sure flash was loaded and running so I could see www.badgerbadgerbadger.com

Then I did the rename bat file. And no flash to harass me while I look at web sites. Before all of this I tried various settings of 'prompt for install of activex stuff' and similar settings within IIE but it had no effect. Note that there can be no browsers running when you run the rename bat.

BTW I spend a lot of time browsing in my job and things that move while I am trying to read articles and such make me postal somtimes. I wonder if the people who pay to have that stuff done and stuck in web pages realize how much it bothers people, almost as much as popups and if the taliban ever take over here I hope they take the creators of popups along with the email spammers to the socker field for a little sahira justice.
