is there a way to determine if a USB port on a PC is USB 2.0?

I am using a PC at work so I don't know for sure if it is USB 2.0 or not. I am considering buying a USB 2.0 jump drive but don't want to buy it if this PC isn't USB 2.0 capable.

Hi, Most jump drives will also run at USB 1 speed. Throughput is mostly determined by the speed of the drive and not by how fast the comp can send it the data. Jim

Or if you have any other 2.0 devices, you can plug one in. Windows will tell you if you have plugged a 2.0 device into a non-2.0 port.

All computers now have USB 2.0. Since they changed the spec for it, it's now USB 2.0 highspeed or USB 2.0 fullspeed. You want highspeed.

You can usually go into your bios to see. My computer has an option to enable the highspeed or fullspeed, but it's a newer motherboard. I'm not sure if this is included on older ones. I would assume it is though.

If you know what type of motherboard you have you can look it up.

You can use CPU-Z (direct link - right click save as) to get the make and model of your motherboard.

Some relatively recent computers are only USB 1.0. In a lab at school there are some Sempron 2600+ machines but none of them have USB 2.0.

As someone mentioned, just find any USB 2.0 device and plug it in. Surely a coworker has a thumb drive you could check with? Or an external hard drive?
